General information
WEBI 2026 is coming up!
The coolest annual ESAC activity is coming up! This winter we will travel to Surses Switzerland. What is the WEBI, you may ask? WEBI stands for "Winter ESAC Base Camp Idea"! A week during the carnival holidays in which you can go ski touring, split boarding, piste skiing, boarding, whatever you want! We arrange: accommodation, food and transport.
Information
- From the 14th to 21st of February, from Saturday till Saturday!
- Room for 65 people: "The bunker in Surses Switzerland"
- The accommodation is close to several ski tour and piste areas!
- Costs are around 410 euros pp (excluding ski pass), including ski pass around 675 euros. The skipass is about 40 euros more expensive for ages 27 and older.
- Costs include transport, accommodation and food
- Want to decrease costs? Sign up for the hut team! The hut team cooks and leaves the slopes 2 hours earlier but gets a large discount (see slides for more info, last two years around 300 euros per person)
- This year there is a solidarity tax: non-students will pay 50 euros extra in order to lower the costs for students
Pricing
The prices are all just an estimation and are determined on the actual costs made.
- Base price: €410
- Base + skipass: €675
- Base + touring course: €650
- This could be cheaper or a more expensive based on the guide/instructor situation.
- This price is excluding the Ottenfonds subsidy, which is generally around €100 per person (we received it every year for the past three years, but it is no guarantee).
- Skis are included, but the avalanche set and ski boots are not.
- Avalanche set: €25
- Touring skis: free
- Priority goes to the touring course. The chances of getting skis from ESAC when not taking part in the course are very low.
See the
slides for more information, or contact the committee for questions!
What can you do?- Unguided Touring: Only when you have experience! Several touring options per day: Always something in it for you. Located in the middle of multiple touring valleys
- Touring Course: Learn the basics of touring and make tours accompanied by instructors and/or guides. Sufficient skiing/boarding level and attendance to avalanche course required!
- Piste: You can go piste skiing or snowboarding independently.
Regarding the ski pass: For the ski area Arosa Lenzerheide (225 km) group discount can be arranged. We can get the group discount from 15 persons or more. Please indicate in the sign up form if you want this pass for 6 days. The committee will buy these discounted group ski passes. If you want less days or more flexibility indicate this in the additional comments section. Then we can see what is preferred and propose some different options later.
Registration priority
65 spots total
WEBI is popular, therefore;
- 30(unguided) touring spots
- 5-10 touring course spots (at least 5 spots, can be increased depended on the signups and tourski instructors)
- Rest is for piste skiing
If the subscriptions exceed 65 within a week from the subscriptions opening (23rd of October) then a lottery will be held. People that can arrange a car and students will get priority.
Left-over places in a category will be filled by other participants.
Timeline
16 Oct. Registrations open at 12:00!
23 Oct. Draw if needed
11 Nov. Registrations close
18 Nov. Deadline for cancellation and invoices for the deposit are sent
For Unguided Touring
Only when you have experience! You should go touring for the majority of the week.
If the participant doesn't adhere to the rule stated above, the participant can only subscribe as a piste skier for WEBI 2027.
Cancellation
Cancellation policy: after November 18th, all costs incurred up to that point must be paid by the participant. Unless there are people on the waiting list who can take your spot. Ask the committee for this, they keep track of it.
Travel insurance
In the event of an emergency (think tornados, terrorism, or otherwise dangerous circumstances) the WEBI committee is authorized to cancel the trip. In this case the cost that were made will still be divided among the participants. It would be wise to have a travel insurance for this, as ESAC provides nothing.
